Keeping
Cleveland Heights
in good repair!

PURCHASE/REHAB ACTIVITIES

Renovation of the first foreclosed, vacant home acquired by Home Repair Resource Center's new subsidiary, Home in the Heights, is progressing as planned. An Open House to allow the community to view the completed renovation will be scheduled for sometime in early August.

                                                             Westover house before renovation

The property, on Westover Road in the Forest Hill neighborhood, has already been sold to new owners who loved the potential they saw in the home when they first visited, shortly after renovations began in March. They also liked the idea that they were buying from a community organization committed to doing a high-quality job, and one that would be consistent with the history of the house.

The Westover home is just the first of several properties that Home in the Heights plans to renovate over the next year. All the houses targeted for renovation are ones that have been vacant for some time and need a lot of work. When completed, the homes will feature higher energy efficiency and lower maintenance costs, with new kitchen, bathrooms, and numerous other improvements. Construction by Home in the Heights will feature green technology, high quality materials, and superb finish detail to match neighborhood and community standards.

Home Repair Resource Center has developed a new Home Buyer Education Program to prepare home buyers for successful home ownership. The City of Cleveland Heights offers a Down Payment Assistance Program for low- and moderate-income (LMI) buyers, offering up to $15,000 to qualified applicants.

Purchasing and renovating vacant homes in Cleveland Heights has been an important part of HRRC's mission. In the organization's history, it has completed and sold seven renovated homes. The expansion of the program and creation of Home in the Heights will help stem the tide of the current foreclosure crisis and improve the neighborborhoods where these homes have stood vacant. This will allow Home Repair Resource Center to continue to play an important role in keeping our community healthy and in good repair.
