Keeping
Cleveland Heights
in good repair!

PURCHASE/REHAB ACTIVITIES

Reducing the number of vacant, uninhabitable homes in Cleveland Heights is an important part of Home Repair Resource Center's mission. In response to the current foreclosure crisis, HRRC has created a new subsidiary, Home in the Heights, which has allowed HRRC to expand our rehab efforts and continue to play an important role in keeping our community healthy and in good repair.

An open house has been scheduled to show the most recent renovation project completed by Home Repair Resource Center’s subsidiary, Home in the Heights:

Saturday, March 20th - 1 to 3 p.m.
3519 Edison Road

After skilled volunteers gutted the kitchen, bathrooms and basement, and removed the enclosed rear porch of this vacant, deteriorated property (see the December 4th article Sun Press article by Lindsay Betz), the house was totally updated with new roof, heating, and air-conditioning systems. The front masonry steps were rebuilt, and an enclosed rear porch was replaced with a brand new deck. The kitchen was completely renovated, with new cabinets and bamboo floor; all bathroom fixtures were replaced; and the remodeled basement now features an attractive rec room. Area residents are invited to attend the open house and see the finished project.

The objective of Home in the Heights is to renovate vacant homes that can then be sold to owners who will occupy them and be responsible neighbors. Earlier this summer, Home in the Heights completed renovation of its first property, on Westover Road in the Forest Hill neighborhood, and plans to renovate several other homes over the next year. All the houses targeted for renovation are ones that have been vacant for some time and need a lot of work. When completed, each home will feature higher energy efficiency and lower maintenance costs, with new kitchen, bathrooms, and numerous other improvements. Construction by Home in the Heights utilizes green technology, high quality materials, and superb finish detail to match neighborhood and community standards.

Renovating vacant homes and selling them to responsible owner/occupants protects neighborhoods and improves property values for residents throughout Cleveland Heights.

Home Repair Resource Center has developed a new Home Buyer Education Program to prepare home buyers for successful home ownership. The City of Cleveland Heights offers a Down Payment Assistance Program for low- and moderate-income (LMI) buyers, offering up to $15,000 to qualified applicants.
